Single port laparoscopy – LESS
In recent years, it has been attempted to access all the tools in the abdomen during laparoscopy from the same port – i.e. the navel with unique benefit and aiming at the best aesthetic result.
Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) technique is a technological advance in the development of surgical techniques and minimal invasive surgery.
Unfortunately, this surgical technique has serious drawbacks and many laparoscopic surgeons, including Dr. Ioannidis, consider that there is absolutely no indication in the treatment of infertility problems in women.
The drawbacks of this technique are the following:
It is not possible to perform all the conventional laparoscopic procedures,
There is no good visibility, so some diseases may not be diagnosed properly,
It has increased costs compared to traditional laparoscopy,
The aesthetic result is seriously challenged by the women themselves, as the incision in the navel is twice the size (2-2.5 cm) of the conventional laparoscopy incision laparoscopy and at a very visible and sensitive site.
Consequently, this technique has no place in addressing female infertility problems.
